Faking It's Katie Stevens: Karma Will Question Amy, Liam Relationships

September 2024 · 3 minute read

Tough times at Hester High School. Karma may have forgiven her best friend and first love for hooking up, but the fallout is far from over. Katie Stevens dished to Us Weekly about how her character’s relationships will change with Amy (Rita Volk) and Liam (Gregg Sulkin) in the remaining Season 2 episodes of Faking It, and whether Karma will truly reciprocate Amy’s romantic feelings.

Quick refresher! Karma and Amy pretended to be in a relationship in order to become popular. Amy actually fell hard for her BFF, but Karma put her in the friend zone, which led to Amy having a drunken rendezvous with Liam!

“She’s going to kind of question everything in her life because the two people she trusted and loved the most were the people that betrayed her,” Stevens, 22, told Us. “And so it makes her have her guard up.”

But perhaps not as much with Liam. Stevens revealed that the twosome strike up a friends-with-benefits type of deal in the upcoming episodes. “He was the first person she fell in love with. She still wants to still have some aspects of that relationship,” the singer-actress explained. “I think everyone in the world can agree that that never works. So, we’ll see. I can’t tease too much, but we’ll see if that works for them!”

If not, Karmy shippers will be waiting. That is, if the gal pals truly are meant to be together. “If that were to happen I think it might come from a point with Karma where it hasn’t worked with anyone else. Maybe she’s supposed to be in this and it’s been leading [Karma] to Amy this whole time,” Stevens told Us. “But I don’t know if it will eventually work and if that will be the end-all be-all. I’m not sure if Karma is a lesbian or what it is. I just know that she loves Amy.”

So much so, in fact, that she didn’t even yell at her for hooking up with Liam. “That surprised me reading it! I was like, ‘I would never do this! I would slap her across the face!’” Stevens said, laughing. “And the [writers] were like, ‘I think this is coming from a point where Karma can’t allow herself to even believe that Amy would do something like that to her.’ I think that’s interesting and a really awesome decision on their part.”

The Faking It team has also been creative about Karma’s style. The wardrobe department sometimes pairs the character’s trendy outfits with a piece of jewelry Stevens received from a fan during her American Idol Season 9 stint back in 2010.

“The necklace was one of those necklaces that had a meaning. [My mom and I] were cleaning out my closet after I booked Faking It and we saw that the necklace was ‘karma,’” Stevens told Us.

She added: “I love the name Karma and I think the word karma has come into my life so much since booking the character. I got a dog recently and it just so happens that my dog’s name was Karma. Creepy!”

Faking It returns on Monday, Aug. 31, at 9:30 p.m. ET on MTV.
