While in high school, he was a pretty good basketball player and in his senior year, led his high school team to MHSAA Central region (CSAA) championship.

He started his modeling career in 2001, while he was still studying in college.

He has revealed in his interviews that one of the reasons behind pursuing an acting career in South Korea was that he wanted to track down his mother’s family.

He co-starred as Sam Chao (a Sino-American lawyer sent to work in Shanghai for three months) in the 2012 romantic comedy film Shanghai Calling and this role won him the award for “Outstanding Achievement in Acting” at the Newport Beach Film Festival and the award for “Best New Actor” at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
