When Arroyo was younger, his family relocated from Key West to Brooksville, where he attended Hernando High School. His professional baseball career started when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Major League Baseball 1995 Draft. He made his MLB debut with the club in 2000. In 2007, he received a contract extension with the club, and he finished the season with a 4.23 earned run average and a 9-15 win-to-loss record.
The next year, he threw 200 innings and had a 4.77 earned run average — he gave up 11 earned runs in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. After being diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome the next year, Bronson missed many games as a result of his health issue. However, he returned to the club for the second half of the 2009 season and completed the season with an ERA of 3.84 and a record of 15-1In 2010, he was selected to be the number two starter for his team’s postseason series against the New York Mets. In 2011, he agreed to a contract extension for $35 million, which would have allowed him to stay with the club for an additional three years after that.
